Battery health has dropped, or the phone shuts down unexpectedly
Settings, Battery, Battery Health shows the maximum capacity. A low figure or a service message points at the battery, and sudden shutdowns at a healthy-looking percentage usually do too.
Cracked display, or touch that acts on its own
On current iPhones the glass and the display are one assembly, so a crack is usually a full display job. Touches that register by themselves after a drop are a display fault, not a software one.
Will not charge, or only charges at an angle
iPhone 14 and earlier use Lightning, and iPhone 15 onwards use USB-C. Either port packs with lint, so cleaning comes first, then the cable, then the port itself.
Water exposure, even if it still works
Water resistance is a rating, not a permanent property, and corrosion develops over the days after liquid contact. A phone that works today can fail next week.
Face ID or camera faults after a drop
Face ID is a group of sensors near the top of the display. Faults after a drop or liquid exposure are diagnosed separately from a screen or battery fault, and some Face ID faults may not be fixable by replacing a part.

Test with a known-good cable and adapter, and inspect the port for compacted lint before treating it as a job at all.
Inspect the display and touch response, and look for signs of liquid contact.

Back up the phone to iCloud or a computer first. Screen, battery and port work does not normally need the phone wiped, but a backup costs nothing.
Note your model and iOS version from Settings, General, About. It speeds up the quote.

Will iPhone service erase my data?
Screen, battery and charging port work does not require wiping the phone. Backing up first is still sensible with any work on a phone.
Will my iPhone still be water resistant afterwards?
Opening any phone disturbs the factory adhesive seals, so water resistance may not be what it was. We tell you this before you decide, not after.
